Welcome to MaldivesFinder.com – Your Ultimate Resort Search Tool
Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway to the Maldives, searching for the best Maldives resorts with house reefs for snorkelling and diving, or seeking out the best selection of cuisine and bars, our platform helps you find the perfect match for your dream vacation.
The Maldives is world-famous for its stunning overwater villas and intimate settings, making it the ideal destination for romantic getaways. But Maldives has more to offer than “just” being a couples’ honeymoon destination: It is also a paradise for those of us, who wish to experience the rich and beautiful underwater life brimming just beneath the crystal blue waters of the atolls. There are Maldives hotels that each specialise or excel in different areas, and finding out which is which can leave you in need of a vacation all on its own. That’s why we are here - to help you sort through the Maldives resorts and find the best diving resort in Maldives, or the resort with the best house reef, or the best resort for snorkelling - or, of course, the most romantic getaway.
Most Maldivian resorts feature over-water or water villas, which are the iconic villas placed on “stilts” in relatively shallow water. While beautiful, they are not the only accommodation available, and we encourage you to look into different options. Water villas are usually on the more luxurious side, but beach villas (villas located on the beach) and other on-island accommodation can provide a more budget-friendly approach. And believe us, staying on a beach on an island resort is absolutely not a bad view to wake up to, either way - plus, you’ll get the added bonus of the sound of gentle waves reaching the shore.
One of the things that makes Maldives so special, is that the best time to visit Maldives is ... Well, whenever you are able, actually. Maldives is located fairly close to the equator (some of Maldives is actually below!), which means that it boasts year-round mild, sunny weather. If you really squint, and get really technical about it, there are - of course - minor differences to what makes it the “best time to visit Maldives”. There is a wet/dry season, but even the “wet” season is quite dry, featuring maybe some rain at night or one 10-minute rainshower during the day. As someone who spends most of their time in the Maldives wet from the ocean and wet from the pool either way - well, that’s a “shrug” for most people. If you really want to deep dive into optimising timing for marine life, that is also an option; there is, in fact, such a thing as “manta season”, but again, you’ll be able to spot cool things (especially in the water) year-round, so don’t let the timing get you down. What fluctuates the most, concerning the time of year, is probably not the weather - it’ll be the prices. You can use our search-page to find the resorts you like, and monitor the price changes by checking back regularly.
The dining in Maldives is generally of a pretty high standard. And they better be, because once you’re on the island, you’re not really going to be able to cruise around, looking for better restaurants. And it’s lucky that most resorts know this, and thus, provide excellent choices for food and drinks, right there on the spot. It can be a good idea to consider what you like; most resorts feature a big main buffet-style-restaurent as a default, but some resorts also have other dining options on the island. If that’s something that’s important to you, to be able to choose a different dining spot, or if you must be able to eat pizza every day (no judgement from here!), it can be valuable to know beforehand which resorts provide these services.
It is worth noting, that while Maldives is an islamic country that has strict rules on alcohol consumption, the island resorts are exempt from this rule. Which means that YES, you can absolutely get a pina colada! But, it is worth remembering, that you cannot bring alcohol with you when you leave the island (i.e. if you were to visit Malé or another local island on an excursion, or getting to- and from the island resorts).
Speaking of travelling to- and from the island: Did you know that the Maldives feature the world's largest seaplane operation? While it’s different from island to island - depending on their location - usually, as a visitor, you will travel by plane to Velena International Airport, and then get on your transfer from there. Transfers are usually hassle-free, arranged by the resorts themselves. Some resorts offer guests a choice between boat and seaplane transfer, and others - again, depending on location - only has one of the two choices. If this is something that matters to you (transfer type or even time to island), remember to look for the island placement (the atoll it's in should give you a good clue) and transfer types when comparing resorts.
We are not a travel agency or booking agent - just someone who’s furiously been finding and comparing the resorts that most match our needs and wants. Finding it difficult with the tools available, we decided to make our own - and this is it! It is free of charge for you to use to search and peruse island resorts. Please let us know if you find any information isn’t up to date, or if you have any suggestions or comments for future development of the site. We’d love to hear from you!
It’s not “Mal dives”, it’s not “Maldef island” - but, if you’re looking for white beaches and a true tranquil experience, Maldives will (probably) do that for you. It’s about finding the island that best matches your wants; but it’s also about knowing, or figuring out, what you want. That can be difficult to do when looking at endless similar pictures of beautiful places. And don’t worry - they really do look like that - but if you’re in doubt about where to start, we’d suggest trying our Genie Tool, which is a series of guided questions to help you consider what might be important for you. It will suggest a few Maldives island resorts at the end, too, to help you get started.
Happy searching - and see you on the sunny side.
